When You're At Fault for a Car Accident

Well if you are at fault for the accident we hope that you have liability insurance coverage to cover any injuries that are caused. If for some reason you do not have liability insurance coverage, however, there is a possibility, in the State of New Hampshire, that the injured individual may contact the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles to request a financial responsibility hearing. At the financial responsibility hearing there would be a determination as to who was probably at fault. If you are determined to be probably at fault you would have to post a bond or reach some other agreement with the insurance company on the other side to make periodic payments. Otherwise your license could be at risk and subject to not having it reinstated until you post a financial responsibility bond. It is always a good idea to have insurance coverage, at least liability insurance coverage. Property damage coverage covers the damage on the other vehicle, collision coverage covers the damage to your vehicle when you are at fault or when the other side does not have insurance. If you have any older car, you may wish to forgo some of the additional coverage’s but make certain that you at least have a minimal amount of liability and underinsured motorist coverage. After all, we are not just worried about what happens when you are at fault. We are worried about what happens when someone else causes the accident and the do not have coverage. In that case, you can pursue your own uninsured motorist coverage.
