Attorney Normand Admitted to National Motorcycle Safety Organization
/Attorney James Normand has been admitted to the National Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators. (SMSA) Through this premier Motorcycle Safety organization, Atty. Normand is able to follow the trend in motorcycle safety research, motorcycle accident reconstruction, and best practices throughout the country. New Hampshire has the second highest per capita registration of motorcycles in the country. Our winding and mountainous roads are great rides but rife with hazards. Use special caution when pack riding. Large bikes in a pack are often mesmerizing to other vehicle drivers who tend to drive toward what they are looking at. Not long ago, an elderly driver drove straight into a fairly low speed charity ride on a clear day with police lights leading the way. The auto driver was mesmerized by the event and unintentionally drove into the line of bikes with serious injuries resulting. The same might have just happened in Northern New Hampshire where seven riders were killed. Tragic. There appears to be liability on the other driver and his employer. Were the deaths avoidable? Since I see so many senseless motorcycle injuries, I choose to ride with a yellow helmet and a vest that automatically inflates if I ever fly off the bike. At least my torso, neck and head have some protection. I recommend that others consider such safety apparel. The SMSA web site and that of the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) contain numerous tips to gain motorcycle safety skills. Let’s face it, regardless of fault, the motorcyclist always loses in a collision with a truck or car leaving debilitating injuries and sometimes death. When the cause of the accident is not obvious, the insurance company for the other driver will usually fight tooth and nail to contest fault due to the size of the claim. Expert witnesses with motorcycle accident reconstruction experience can make a real difference. I now have a treasure trove of experts available to assist my clients and their families with my affiliation with SMSA. Ride safely. Please carry significant Underinsured Motorist coverage, be conspicuous and watch for others making mistakes so that you can avoid crashes if possible.
